- Technical Wear
Technical waterwear and outerwear is essential to your on-water activities, whether riding over the ocean's skin or when fully immersed. Wetsuits form an essential barrier for full immersion sports, and our Lycra® garments offer a level of Ultraviolet Protection Factor (UPF), lowering the damaging effects of ultraviolet (UV) exposure to the sun and the harmful effects they can cause. Nothing beats covering up for assured protection. Wind chill, hypothermia, and sun skin damage are all very real factors in the life of a watersports enthusiast. Hydrophobic apparel repels spray, and windproof garments wind chill and reduce heat loss. Mistral boasts an extensive range of technical outerwear specific to your needs.
Water Chill, Wind Chill and Sun (UV) Protection
Wetsuits
Designed to work most efficiently when immersed in water, a wetsuit forms the core basis of protection from cold waters, making many water-related sports possible. Board sports vary in the degree of immersion, and careful selection for your sport or multiple sports is essential based on seasonal needs and your performance expectations.
Hydrophobic Protection
When on the water and it's unlikely you will become fully immersed, a hydrophobic garment will encourage water run-off and offer wind protection. This prevents the garment from becoming water-logged while protecting you from the radiator effect of water on the skin evaporating. Ideal for many sup activities, kayaking and various sailing activities.
Wind Chill Protection
Cold winds on or off the water can very quickly deplete you of body warmth. A warm day on the beach can turn into a cold day on the water. Where full immersion is unlikely, an effective wind and spray-proof jacket can offer a lightweight solution to extending your on-water enjoyment and time. Wear over layers to create an effective thermal barrier, paddleboarding, kayaking or boating.
UV-Sun Protection
As much as we all love the therapeutic benefits of the sun, too much can put you at risk. The advice is always to consider covering up even before you slap on sun cream, which can make paddles and boards slippery. With high UV ratings, Lycra® has been the go-to material in tees to keep you protected, and we've got the perfect range, including peaked caps for facial protection.
