Carla Henríquez Amador / Tenerife
Carla first took up surfing at the age of 25, and by the age of 28, it had become a part of her life and lifestyle, so she was surfing regularly and consistently. The motivation to surf and to embrace it entire life came about by the way it made her feel. ‘I was feeling a bit down, and a friend took me to the beach to try. I fell in love with the feeling of being on a board. It was magical, and it just took away all my bad feelings.’ Growing up on the Canary Island of Tenerife, she was blessed to live in a water sports mecca. Now that she has fully embraced surfing, she has set her goals to travel the world, exploring the world's surfing hot spots and remote locations with the goal of inspiring another woman to take up the sport no matter what age. ‘Surfing healed me when I was feeling down, and I would like to help other women feel joy through surfing at every stage of their lives. No matter the age or whether they have kids, surfing can be for every woman.’ Riding waves and finding the down-the-line perfect ride, transitioning from rail to rail, she loves the feel of dancing with the waves. As a keen photographer and videographer, she loves to create content documenting her adventures, with downtime, enjoying reading and listening to music. ‘I am very persistent in reaching the things I want in life. But sometimes, I lack patience, and I am very hard on myself when things don’t go the way I expect.’
