Beschreibung

The Makani freeride sail represents a no-fuss, fun design that does the job. It excels at bump' n’ jump and freeride performance in one sail, customised for speed and effortless handling. Light and agile in the hands, it can deliver high speeds with stability while offering high levels of manoeuvrability. Specifically, it incorporates a manoeuvre-focused design with a high-powered sail design that promotes early planning without excessive pumping. The power distribution is well forward; even in higher gusts, the power remains forward.

With its high aspect ratio, handling and manoeuvrability are exceptional. Combining all its design features and panelling layout results in a sail excelling in almost any condition. You'll appreciate its versatility and performance when carving tight gybes or smashing out high-speed runs. The Makani is the perfect choice for the recreational freeride and bump ’n jump rider who rides freeride-focused or larger freewave boards. The Makani 5.9m sail is ideal for the 50kg rider, beginning at around 13knots up to 25knots for the 110kg rider

Each Makani sail is designed with a pre-loaded batten curved profile to deliver solid low-end power. When you sheet in, the depth of curvature deepens, giving the sail greater power while maintaining stability and perfect curvature so that you can demand extreme performance levels. 5 full-length battens are used in addition to 2 smaller flat mini battens in the upper panels.

Two Kevlar stretch control tendons distribute the wind’s force load across the sail's surface area from the clew to the luff, controlling the breaking point for sail twist and increasing its wind range and longevity.

Finger patch tendons located at the clew deliver high load distribution over a larger area of the sail cloth surface, improving durability, shape retention and handling. A stainless steel O-ring also ensures the strongest connection between boom outhaul and sail, delivering direct power delivery. At the tack, a lightweight moulded EVA tack and top fairing protect both the board and rider from impact and injury and include an interior downhaul pocket.

Scrim fabric designed specifically for durability and impact resistance, known as Q2-Ply, is used along the foot and clew panels. Q2-Ply is 20% lighter than 5 MIL X-Ply, but it provides similar strength. The fabric incorporates 90-degree polyester threads, giving a square pattern, and it is further overlaid with 30-degree, wide-spaced Kevlar thread. The edge of the foot panel benefits from nylon braid.

MAST/BOOM COMPATIBILITY: (Matching the Makani to a compatible mast is essential for optimum performance)
MAST:
The optimal length is 430cm to fit the sail luff length of 431cm. The mast + mast extension must meet this length requirement.
BOOM:
Requires minimum 177cm boom length.

MAST CHARACTERISTICS: The Makani freeride sail requires a progressive constant curved RDM (reduced mast diameter) or SDM (standard mast diameter) mast so that the bend curve is constant, but the base is stiffer than the top. This provides optimal sail dynamics, allowing the bottom of the sail to generate power and the rig's top to release power quickly. RDM’s are more durable and, therefore, more suitable for punishing wave conditions. SDMs provide a faster reflex response, stability, and acceleration, making them more suitable for flatwater sailing.
